Picky

Sleep is becoming hard. I have no me time.

Jono won’t sleep now till 745pm. It takes me 90 mins to get him down.

Loch doesn’t sleep till…? Right now it’s 938pm and he is still going strong. Poor baby is overtired and playing up big time. Also on Panadol and sick. Coughing almost vomiting. And so hyper. His speaking is funny though… what’s going on in his brain? Random words and sentences come out and it’s kind of stringed together and you can almost sense loose connections being made between concepts. His brain is in overdrive. In the middle of our Lochie and Jono story which is currently taking place in Antarctica, Lochie has thrown together all the information he has sponged up over the last 24 hours. It’s like a feverish dream. There’s Peter Rabbit’s tree house with a Real City Hero red fire truck and the giraffe from the zoo where I joked I would put Lochie. (Shall I take you to the zoo and leave you with the animals? “Yeah!” Which animals, giraffes or elephants? “Yeah! But not alligators!”)

So tonight he was super naughty. Picky. Sweet and cute but overly obsessed with his wants. Even when he was waking up from a feverish sleep, he was mumbling, “I want I want!”

And tonight I’m once again waiting on his majesty. “Where’s my blanket? No not that one, try different one.” We have gone through all blankets and I can’t work out which one he wants. More importantly, it didn’t used to be this complex. He was happy with any old blanket. Now this picky eating and picky blanketing makes for a very picky baby. And the water bottles! I’m constantly moving from one bottle to another just to get him to hydrate. “No I want different water.”

So he was very naughty. Screaming, when I specifically told him to be quiet as Jono is asleep. And then, just as I was telling him I’m not happy with him and I’m going to go and call daddy and basically I’m not impressed, he suddenly breaks into this song and dance:

“Aaah! Peepee sore!” What? (I take this very seriously.) I’ll have a look at it (I turn the light in and put him on the change table. He is itching his nappy as well as mosquito bites around his legs.) “Peepee in nappy, nappy sore!” I said let me check and put cream on it. “No, no like it. I want make poo now.” What, ok, let’s go try on the toilet, I’ll help you. “No, no like it! I want go to bed now.” Argh, do you want to make poo, or is your peepee still sore? “My nappy sore. Mummy kiss it better.” And then, “I feel better now, I cuddle mummy in chair, watch videos on phooone…”

10pm he has quietened and all I hear is the loud chmok chmok of his dummy sucking. Alas. Short lived because the poor kid is coughing and spluttering. Kids sick is the worst.
