Woo are so smooth

7 January 2024 | Lochie 5.5 years | Jono 4 years

“Woo look bootiful mummy,” Jono hopped off the couch to follow me into the laundry and tell me this. What did you say, I asked? I had to repeat and prolong the moment. Jono’s picking up on changes in my makeup and clothes. The other day I put on brown eye shadow, and Jono exclaimed my bathroom, “Wes, I like brown on woo eyes mummy.” What’s your favourite colour? “I like brown, and boo, and pink, I like all of the colours woo put on woo eyes.”

There were so many moments throughout the day when both boys turned on the charm. I’ll try to recall some one-liners.

Lochie: I want to go to the pool…
Jono: No, Lachlan, we are going to the museum, don’t woo want to see woo cousin?

Me: What was your favourite thing to see in the museum, bugs, dinosaurs?
Lochie: Auntie Nadia

Driving home from a trip to the museum, the kids are hangrily negotiating what they will eat. We’re looking for the optimal option. After arguing with Lochie, Jono sees that the debate is making me annoyed.

Jono: Mummy I will tell woo a secret… (I lean my ear to his lips.) I will be happy to eat what woo want me to eat, ok?

Lochie: Mummy, if you get hurt I will forever look after you and care for you.

Lochie: Kiss! He plants a gentle peck on my forehead and another on my cheek. I am just going to kiss you ok? Oh I’m sorry, did I hurt you? More kisses while I’m reading books. He tries to read the words too. I love these books! Oh… and you smell so good. I like how you smell. You smell like gummies? No, you smell like… like… LOVE!

Jono is lying opposite me in his bed, falling asleep. Opens his eyes, makes a big square grin, grabs my head and rubs our noses together. I once taught him this is how animals kiss their young. Finally he’s falling asleep and remembers I’m still next to him.

Jono: Are woo still happy mummy?
Me: I’m one million happy.
Jono: Wes! I like it.
