Early breastfeeding
2 September 2018 : 3 weeks (1 month)
Lochie is feeding sleepily on the right boob. He works hard but occasionally falls asleep on the job. It is my absolute hope that he gets enough food during these feeds. He detaches with as much vigour as he attaches but his little mouth is then covered in milk. Availability of milk has become one of the most important topics on my mind.

After a tiny catnap, Lochie is back in action on the left boob. We continue to feed with poor little Lochie crying in between gulping, snoozing and accidentally detaching. It seems to hurt him to pass wind and he gets very uncomfortable as the milk passes from his mouth through his body. I hope this phase passes soon. Dr Google suggests Lochie’s discomfort could be stemming from any of the following:
- intolerance to cows’ or soy milk (which I drink)
- torticollis neck pain from the way he was sitting in his breach position in my womb
- one of the many types of reflux
- insufficient or slow flow of milk
- colic (other)
