Poops and oops

We have been too busy / lazy / scared to start toilet training and missed the window of opportunity while the weather was warm to let Lochie roam in big boy undies and learn cause and effect. Now that Lochie’s comprehension is developing in leaps and bounds, and he is inadvertently teaching himself to read, we have been covering up our toilet training delay concerns by appealing to the developed logic capabilities of a 2 year old.

Husband and I are both guilty of this lazy remark from the safety of a couch, “hey Loch, if you make a poo on the toilet you’ll get a present, wanna try?” To which Lochie replies, “No, I’m playing.”

We had to up the ante. “If you make a poo on the toilet you can have a Blippi garbage truck.”

But tonight be climbed into the cupboard where I store treats and gifts and came upon Blippi garbage truck.

He raced upstairs and jumped onto his toilet training seat. I barely managed to take his nappy down. For 45 whole minutes I could not get him off. He squeezed and pushed and giggled and grunted and turned red but no luck.

Had to gift him a tiny excavator for his commitment.

*** next day ***

Lochie: I don’t want nappy. I want poo on toilet. I want Blippi present.

40 mins later

Lochie: tell me stories.
Me: cuddles and stories?
Lochie: no. Stories on toilet. I want Blippi present.

No luck.
Lochie repositions and suddenly…FART

Lochie: 😀
Me: good start
Lochie: just a fart. Can I have Blippi present?
Me: blippi present after poo only.
Lochie: no! I want blippi present after fart!
